Is accountable to the Hospital Medical Director for all clinical functions and all professional and administrative activities within the Department.
Is responsible for developing a Departmental mission and role statement, goals and objectives, and a three to five year plan.
Reviews credentials and makes recommendations regarding appointment of new Staff members.
Participates as a member ofthe Medical and Administrative Advisory Council.
Provides guidance on the overall medical policies of the Hospital and makes specific recommendations regarding his Department to ensure quality patient care.
Evaluates the adequacy of staffing in the specialty and sUb-specialty areas of medical care and makes recommendations to the Hospital Medical Director.
Has the authority to suspend or modify clinical privileges for a member of his Department if adequate patient care cannot be assured.
Immediate notification of such will be made to the Hospital Medical Director and the Chief of Medical Staff.
May grant temporary clinical privileges, not to exceed sixty (60) days, to members of his Department in concurrence with the Hospital Medical Director.
Maintains continuing review of the professional performance and clinical privileges of all members of the Medical Staff in his Department and submits reports to the Hospital Medical Director prior to the end of the service year.
Monitors each member of the department for the implementation of and adherence to clinical privileges as granted.
Implements actions taken by the Medical and Administrative Advisory Council, Hospital Medical Director, and the Chief Executive Officer.
Promotes continuing medical education of each Department member and reviews professional leave requests of each department member.
Promotes clinical research.
Supports and enforces Hospital policies in the Department.
Allocates beds in the Department in concurrence with Medical Affairs.
Promotes good morale within the Department.
Appoints intra- and inter-Department members as needed in concurrence with Medical Affairs.
Appoints Deputy Chairman in concurrence with the Medical Director.
Is responsible for monitoring departmental training programs, i.e., residents and fellowship students.
Recommends Residents and Fellows for departmental appointment to the Deputy Director of Academic Affairs.
Appoints the Residency Training Program Coordinator in consultation with the Deputy Director of Academic Affairs.
In conjunction with the Section Heads, establishes Fellowship Programs
