Performs clinical,surgical and technical animal health procedures under the supervision of a veterinarian. Assists in veterinary care planning and execution and operation of research protocols with laboratory animals.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
1.Assists in animals medical, surgical and anesthesia procedures.
2.Conducts veterinary diagnositic procedures such as hematology, serum chemistry, and parasitology testing.
3.Performs IV cannulation and blood, stool and urine collection.
4.Schedules and administers veterinary drugs, vaccination and therapeutics.
5.Maintains veterinary health records and assists in colony health biosecurity screening.
6.Operates and maintains veterinary laboratory instruments, X-ray and ultrasound.
7.Orders and maintains needed inventory of veterinary drugs, sutures and supplies.
8.Implements occupational health and safety procedures and practices.
9.Follows all Hospital policies and procedures.
10.Participates in self and others education, training and development as applicable.
Bachelor’s or Associate Degree / Diploma in Veterinary Technology / Animal Health or Science from an accredited institution is required.
Two (2) years of relevant experience with Bachelor’s, or four (4) years with Associate Degree / Diploma is required.
American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (ALAT, LATG) or similar certifications is preferred.
