PROJECT SUMMARY

Air Products, Saudi Aramco and ACWA Power are in final negotiations to form an over $11 billion Gasification / Power joint venture (JV) located at Jazan Economic City (JEC) in Saudi Arabia.

The JV will purchase, commission and operate the gasification assets, power block and the associated utilities from Saudi Aramco.

These assets are currently under construction and will be transferred to the JV upon successful completion, currently scheduled for the end of 2019.

The JV will own and operate the facility under a 25-year contract for a fixed monthly fee. Saudi Aramco will supply feedstock to the JV, and the JV will produce power, hydrogen and other utilities for Saudi Aramco.

Air Products will own at least 50 percent of the JV, with Saudi Aramco and ACWA Power owning the balance. The JV builds upon the importance and recognition that critical infrastructure assets in the region are being developed and operated under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model."

The Jazan IGCC is the world’s largest IGCC and ASU facility making 2100 MMSCFD syngas, 18,000 MT / Day Oxygen and 4 Gigawatts of power.

Facilities and assets include : liquids gasification, acid gas clean up, soot ash recovery, sulphur recovery, combined cycle power plants, materials handling systems, hydrogen recovery, water utilities systems and waste water treatment facilities.

POSITION SUMMARY

Opportunities are now available for an experienced Process Controls / Instrumentation Technician to support the Jazan IGCC commissioning and start-up phase.

The duration of the assignment is approximately 24 months with an additional option to roll into a long-term operations assignment.

This is an on-site position in Jazan, Saudi Arabia working 8 weeks on with 2 weeks off.

The applicant will report to the Process Controls Team Lead and will be part of a team of Process Controls Commissioning Engineers and Technicians dedicated to several operating units : Gasification / Acid Gas Removal / Hydrogen Recovery, Soot Ash Recovery, Sulfur Recovery, Air Separation and Utilities.

The technicians will be dedicated to the operating units and will work under the direction of the unit Process Controls Engineers.

This position is intended to target candidates with field / operations or commissioning experience. The Jazan IGCC team supports the safe and efficient leadership, planning, commissioning and start-up of process gas units, including our newly acquired gasification technologies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This opportunity is a member of a process controls engineering commissioning team. The tasks will be

  • Perform and / or supervise the inspection, repair, installation and modification of process controls, safety devices, analysers, PLC’s, field instrumentation and process monitoring equipment in the IGCC facility
  • Validate the turnover of instrumentation systems by collaborating with construction, EPC contractors and the Air Products / JV commissioning and start-up team
  • Support instrumentation commissioning and operations requirements on identified process controls projects as part of the turnover of systems to Air Products / JV
  • SKILLS

  • Lead by example with regards to following procedures and our highest priority of maintaining personnel safety.
  • Have a good knowledge of instrumentation including transmitters, switches, analysers, programmable controllers, proximity devices, level control systems, control valves, equipment and personnel safety systems, paymeter systems.
  • as well as standards from typical Oil and Gas installations. Experience of power system control systems including Power Management and Power Automation systems would be beneficial

  • Critical thinking skills and problem solving capability are required.
  • Proven experience in reading P&IDs and electrical and instrument drawings is required
  • Previous experience of any of the operating units in the IGCC facility (Gasification, Acid Gas Removal, Hydrogen production, Combined Cycle Power Generation, Utilities or Air Separation) would be beneficial.
  • An understanding of modern Distributed Control Systems including requirements for high reliability design, SIS design, validation and maintenance concepts is a benefit.
  • Experience with any of the automation vendors including Honeywell, Siemens, Rockwell and Machinery protection systems (Woodward and Bently Nevada) would be beneficial

  • Ability to work in an industrial environment that includes climbing ladders and stairs, lifting up to 25kg, working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or technical school equivalent
  • Have a minimum 5 years of experience with calibration and troubleshooting of industrial plant instrumentation and controls
  • Demonstrated experience in being a member of a multi-disclipine team
  • Basic computer skills
  • Supervisory skills / experience a benefit
